From Calais to Arras… via Hell.

We’ve found hell on earth.
It’s between Calais and Arras in the middle of corn fields where the wind is hotter than Vindaloo from the Bombay Palace!
Road temperatures were recorded at 43-degrees on Day 2 for over 5 hours, heat that you can’t imagine cycling 130km in … and we kept wondering why we saw only a couple of locals during the entire day. Numb hands, bums, legs, heat exhaustion and dehydration are our biggest challenges.
Plenty of fights with our bikes again, a couple of punctures, more falling off and impalements on gear spikes (not pretty) but by one means or another, the brave 12 made it to Arras for a very cold and very welcome beer.
Friday will be hillier, more climbing and the same if not slightly hotter temperatures riding 82 miles through The Somme to Compiegne, past many Allied cemeteries … it will be the toughest and also very emotional day.
